The Ottawa sportsman's Club met in regular session Monday, Dec. 4,2000. Several new members arid guests were welcomed.
The following members were elected to serve as Ottawa Sportsmen's Club 2001 officers: President, Russ Weisinger; Vice President, Emil Filpus; secretary, Ron Kamarainen; Treasurer, Mike Faucher; and Sergeant-at-Arms, Joe Dyke.
Elected to serve a three-year term on the OSC Board of Directors were Mike Williams, Dick Hiltunen and Irving Santti. Pau) Peterson was elected to serve a one-year term. They join Ed Rigenschuh, Ron Haka, Bob Hietikko, John Lehto and John Stenvig who continue as board members.
Ron Moilanen announced the club's Big Buck Contest winners. Allan Mitchell and Nick Stipich split first prize of $100 for heaviest buck Winner of $75 was Mel Sulkonen for average buck. Bob Hietikko was awarded $50 for the lightest buck. The consolation prize of $200 was won by Pete Kamarainen, Sr.
The Big Buck Booyaw held Saturday, Dec. 2 was enjoyed by well over 50 members and guests. Jake Jacovich of Calumet was on hand to give a close-up look at what well may be the largest rack ever taken in Keweenaw County. Jake has become the cub's newest member and may be a hard act to follow.
Chief Chef Mike Mickus and crew, Bob Gardner, Jr, Jim Hulkonen and Ron Haka put on a terrific end-of-the-hunt feast. They, along with all who helped to deck the halls for Christmas and who helped to make the Booyaw a success, were given a rousing hand of applause. Many who attended went home with door prizes and memories of a very enjoyable evening.
Weisinger announced that, due to the holidays, the board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, and the January membership meeting has been changed to January 8, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. The agenda for the January meeting will be published in the L'Anse Sentinel a week prior and reminders of the meeting date change will be given once again.
