KBIC FISH BIOLOGIST TO SPEAK AT SPORTSMENíS CLUB
Gene Mensch, Fisheries Biologist with the KBIC Natural Resources Department, will be presenting an overview of the Tribal fisheries management program at the Ottawa Sportsmenís Club on Monday, April 4 at 7:30 PM.
The KBIC Tribal fisheries is a very comprehensive program involving the rearing and planting of many fish species including lake trout, coaster brook trout, stream brook trout and walleye pike. Management of the fish does not stop after rearing and planting. Periodic surveys are conducted to assess numbers and health of fish populations in Lake Superior as well as inland lakes and streams. The Tribe has also done intensive lake bottom surveys and mapping in both Keweenaw and Huron Bays.
Gene will be available to answer questions and discuss particular items of interest following his power-point presentation. The Club invites anyone interested in learning more about the KBIC fisheries management and the Ottawa Sportsmenís Club to attend. The clubhouse is located 6 miles west of Baraga on M-38 and new members are always welcome. Questions may be referred to club President Russ Weisinger at 353 - 6859.
