Ottawa Sportsmen's Club NewsJanuary 8th, 2011
Russ Weisinger, President
It's time again to remind all members that annual dues need to be paid by April 1, 2011, to maintain your membership in the OTTAWA SPORTSMEN'S CLUB without interruption. Our membership continues to stay in the range of 340 to 350_members from year to year. So, get your dues sent in early and our long time Treasurer, Mike Faucher, will deposit the bucks to help fund the many conservation and youth oriented activities we sponsor throughout the year as well as paying for upkeep and maintenance of the Clubhouse, grounds and facilities and just "keeping the lights on. Thanks to you all for your continued interest, support and participation in our Club.
Hello and Happy New Year to All: It has been since 2003 that I have served as President of your Club and wrote the annual newsletter. Thanks to the leadership of Joe Dyke, Jack Lehto and John Stenvig, and the Board of Directors, the Ottawa Sportsmen's Club has "stayed the course" set by our founders in our by-laws and the organization has continued to thrive as we enter our 50th Jear since the Wolverine Sportsmen's Club and the Laird Conservation Club joined to form the Ottawa Sportsmen's Club.
In the past year we have accomplished and participated in virtually all of the activities you usually hear about in these newsletters - furnishing TRACKS Magazine to over 400 elementary and middle school students, conducting another successful Shooting Sports Camp, sponsoring the Junior Pistol Team to another successful National Match at Camp Perry, Ohio, providing Hunter Safety Education for over 70 young hunters, continuing to fund a conservation library in all Baraga County schools, etc.
Some of the "not usually reported" things we accomplished this past year include:
At the most recent Board of Director's meeting I asked the board members to give me an idea of their goals for the Club in 2011. I was impressed by the variety of projects and activities offered by that group. And, other club members have been contacting me since then with new ideas and opportunities. If we accomplish all those, together with our normal projects, we will have an outstanding 50th year to add to the preceding 49. I encouragewu all to come to the meetings, participate in the activities and take pride in wur conservation-minded youth activity oriented OTTAWA SPORTSMEN'S CLUB:
At the February 7th meeting we will be offering and considering resolutions for the March MUCC Regional meeting - come out and offer your thoughts and opinions - a resolution must be adopted by a majority of our members before it can go to the MUCC.
Best Regards to All,
Russ Weisinger, President

SUBJECT: Members Only Raffle
We have chosen for our "MEMBERS ONLY RAFFLE" a Tikka T-3 Light 7mm/08 rifle in stainless with a synthetic stock. This is a very nice rifle that any sportsman would be proud to own. Kissell Chevrolet of L'Anse islhe major sponsor for this prize.
We have been successful for the past few years with the Members Only Raffles in lieu of increasing dues to all members. Since it is a members only raffle, your chance of winning is much better than in most raffles for this type of prize. The winner will be drawn at the Wild Game Dinner at the Clubhouse on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Your participation in this raffle will help fund our maintenance projects as well as our many activities; and, you may be the lucky winner!
We have printed five tickets with the mailed letter but members may purchase as many as they wish to support the Ottawa Sportsmenís Club and send entries and money with your dues. Additional tickets will also be available at the Wild Game Feed on April 16.
